The story
Berggasthof Pflegersee serves Bavarian dishes from a location right on the Pflegersee, just two kilometers above Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the foot of the Königsstand massif. Owner Volker Neuroth manages the kitchen, focusing on high-quality preparation using fresh local produce. The Schlemmer Atlas highlights the restaurant with one and a half ladles, praising the picturesque waterside setting and hearty food. The interior holds up to eighty guests, while the adjacent shore terrace expands capacity to over a hundred during the season.
The kitchen turns out a signature whole crispy suckling pig, roasted until golden and presented as a centerpiece for groups. Regular menu items feature fresh trout, pork roast, and potato dumplings, anchoring the service in traditional comfort. Modern touches appear in the dessert course, where the staff pairs hazelnut-parfait with warm shadow cherries alongside lighter options like shredded pancake with stewed plums. Seasonal events include fondue evenings served with mulled wine near a fire on the terrace.
