The story
In the green hills of the Kocher valley, just outside Gerabronn, Die Krone brings together two culinary worlds. The kitchen, led by chef Markus Elison, blends hearty Swabian home cooking with Mediterranean lightness and a modern touch. The result is a cuisine that feels both rooted and fresh.
The restaurant’s philosophy rests on three pillars: freshness and naturalness, seasonality and sustainability, and a distinctive culinary signature. Ingredients are chosen with care, largely from the region, and the menu changes with the seasons. No shortcuts are taken—the team forgoes pre-made products entirely, spending days perfecting their sauces and stocks to build deep, honest flavour.
This commitment earned Die Krone the Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, an award for good quality, good value cooking. It is a recognition of the kind of cooking that prioritises craft over flash.
The menu reflects this approach. Starters might include a dashi made from local venison with root vegetables and a baked wonton, or cured hamachi yellowtail on olive soil and beetroot. Main courses range from a coq au vin of guinea fowl to roasted veal loin with sweetbreads and winter truffle on Acquerello risotto. For those seeking something simpler, there is a pan-fried schnitzel from Hällisch Landschwein or a Swabian Zwiebelrostbraten in Pinot Noir jus.
Alongside the main restaurant, the Krone Stüble offers a more casual space for honest, down-to-earth Swabian food. In summer, the beer garden by the Eisbach stream provides a quiet spot to linger.
Host Tanja Elison and her team welcome guests with a warmth that balances professionalism and genuine hospitality. At Die Krone, the food speaks for itself—and it speaks with a clear, regional accent.
