The story
Gasthaus Peiss in Dietramszell has practiced traditional Bavarian cuisine since 1873. The current owners, Johanna and Manfred Peiß, manage the property in its fifth generation. This enduring commitment to Bavarian cooking recently earned the establishment one spoon in the Schlemmer Atlas guide. Guests consistently return for meals rooted in local ingredients and steady seasonal menus.
The sixth generation took the helm in 2024 when Georg Johann Peiß returned home after extensive travel years. He built his foundation at Hotel Traube Tonbach before working alongside Michel Troger at Schwingshackl Esskultur and later at Atelier in Munich. That refined training now guides the kitchen’s approach to Bavarian cuisine, keeping preparation grounded in local expectations. Dishes reflect careful technique applied to familiar Alpine produce.
The building divides into separate gathering areas rather than a single dining hall. Sunlight fills the main Stube through large windows, while the adjacent room relies on heavy timber and warm tones to create a quiet corner for smaller groups. Events move to the Festsaal, which features a dedicated stage and dance floor for up to two hundred visitors. Outside, mature chestnut trees shade the Biergarten throughout summer months.
