The story
Kaufmann's Restaurant am Schlosspark is a true family business. Chef and owner Michael Kaufmann runs the kitchen alongside his partner and his parents, supported by a dedicated team. The restaurant occupies the former rooms of the Schloss brewery in Gersfeld, which the family renovated in 2019, giving the old walls new life.
The kitchen focuses on a "rustic, upscale country house cuisine," as the Kaufmann's team describes it. The menu is kept small and fine, changing regularly based on what local suppliers can provide. Guests can choose from a daily menu or opt for a degustation menu of five, six, or seven courses – also available in a vegetarian version. A carefully curated wine list, continuously expanded, offers pairings for every course.
This commitment to good quality and good value earned Kaufmann's a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide in 2026. The restaurant's setting – in the historic brewery rooms with high-quality air filtration systems – combines tradition with modern comfort. During summer, the beer garden opens for up to 70 guests, and on weekends, "Mutters" homemade cakes are served when the weather is fine.
Beyond the main dining room (up to 50 seats), the restaurant offers several event spaces: the Rebsaal for up to 60 guests, a bar area with high tables, a bowling alley, and even a large hall for up to 800 people. Catering and gourmet menus are available for private celebrations, business events, or weddings. Guests needing accommodation can be connected with local providers.
The Kaufmann family emphasizes honest interaction and welcomes constructive feedback to keep improving. Their approach is warm and unpretentious – a place where seasonal, international flavors meet genuine hospitality in the heart of the Rhön.
