The story
The Ostiner Stub'n in Gmund am Tegernsee is a house that honors a long tradition. Under the leadership of owner Frank Mollenhauer, who took over in 2013, the restaurant is divided into three distinct areas: the cozy Hirsch & Jägerstüberl, serving regional Bavarian country cuisine, and the Fine Dining restaurant, which offers a modern European menu with occasional Asian influences. A sunny terrace provides a space for simple enjoyment.
Mollenhauer's career includes executive chef positions at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof Aachen, Seehotel Überfahrt in Tegernsee, and Restaurant Lenbach in Munich, before he became self-employed at the Ostiner Stub'n.
The kitchen's guiding principle is simple: always fresh and seasonal. A large portion of the ingredients comes from producers in the Tegernsee region, and the menu changes regularly to reflect the seasons. This commitment to quality and locality is the foundation of the cooking.
The fine dining experience is presented in a menu sequence, featuring dishes that might include cured Icelandic salmon trout with pea cream and strawberry vinaigrette, or lamb hip with sage-mint gremolata and polenta. For special occasions, the team also prepares vegetarian menus.
The hard work of the team has been recognized by the major gastro guides. The Ostiner Stub'n has received the Michelin Bib Gourmand for the eighth time in a row, an award that highlights good quality, good value cooking. This recognition is a natural part of the restaurant's story, reflecting its consistent dedication to its seasonal cuisine and warm hospitality.
