The story
Since 1870, the Landgasthof Zur Post has been a fixture in the small village of Nieder-Moos, near Grebenhain. What began as a posting station with a horse-changing stop is now a sixth-generation family-run inn. The current hosts, Sebastian Heil and Katharina Koros, bring a deep well of experience: Heil from years in starred gastronomy, Koros from a rich culinary background. Together, they run a place that feels both timeless and alive.
The kitchen’s philosophy is straightforward: fresh, regional, and sustainable. Almost all ingredients come from the nearby Vogelsberg region – local butchers, farmers, and traders. Every dish is prepared à la minute, rooted in traditional country cooking but open to contemporary interpretations. The result is good, honest food that changes with the season. The dining rooms are cozy, and in summer the shaded biergarten offers a quiet spot to enjoy the countryside.
Since 2021, the Landgasthof has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin guide, a recognition of careful, handcrafted cooking at a fair price. In 2023, the team was especially proud to receive the Michelin Green Star, which honors restaurants committed to sustainable, seasonal, and environmentally conscious practices. These awards underscore what the restaurant has always stood for: quality that respects the land and the guest.
Whether you come for a meal, a private celebration, or simply to enjoy the view from the balcony of one of the inn’s rooms, the Landgasthof Zur Post offers a genuine taste of the Vogelsberg – and of country cooking at its most sincere.
