Celebrated table
The story
The Smink restaurant in Gronau occupies a restored seventeenth century monument that anchors the local dining scene. Jan and Anne Smink acquired Huize Lindenoord in Wolvega during May 2024 and completed extensive structural renovations before opening its doors in May 2025. Their regional cuisine develops inside a preserved estate where original oak beams, vaulted ceilings, and plastered walls frame every single service.
Jan Smink draws directly from his childhood growing up on a working farm. He translates those agricultural memories into a modern approach that prioritizes hyper seasonal ingredients and straightforward preparation techniques. His regional cooking avoids unnecessary complexity while maintaining exact standards for plating consistency and thermal control. The Gault&Millau guide recognized this disciplined method with a 16.5 rating for the upcoming 2026 season.
Guests pass through a restrained exterior corridor that opens into a bright dining room designed for uninterrupted conversation. The wooden tables sit at a generous distance from one another, allowing visitors to settle into their chairs without feeling rushed by nearby groups. Service staff move deliberately between the open kitchen counter and the seating zones, ensuring steady attention. Every architectural choice supports a calm rhythm that matches the measured pace of the meal.
