The story
Since 2010, EssensArt has been a destination for those who appreciate seasonal, creative cooking with a clear connection to the region. Located on the quiet outskirts of Haan, the restaurant received a Michelin recommendation – a fitting recognition for its thoughtful, modern cuisine and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Host Nikoleta Spyrou and Küchenchef Jens Lommel run the house together with a dedicated team. The cooking is contemporary, international in outlook, and rooted in the best local produce. The menu changes with the seasons, offering a choice of four or six courses, a vegetarian “Grünes Menü”, and à la carte options. Sunday brings a leisurely brunch or midday menu – a chance to enjoy fine dining without formality.
Lommel’s kitchen is precise and inventive. Recent dishes include a delicate Kalbskopfsülze with sourdough bread and horseradish cream, a rotgarnelenküchlein with polenta and oregano, and seeteufel in miso butter with sushi rice. For meat lovers, there is rinderfilet with oxtail croquette and celery. The six-course menu (116,50 €) offers a progression through soup, prawn, tartare, fish, beef, and dessert – each paired with a thoughtful wine selection. The wine list itself is a curated journey through Germany, France, and beyond, with expert recommendations for every course.
The restaurant’s ethos is “kulinarisch, entspannt, kreativ” – culinary, relaxed, creative. This translates into a space where the dining experience is both refined and unpretentious. Outdoor seating extends the pleasure in warmer months, and parking is available.
In 2025, EssensArt celebrated its 15th anniversary with a special five-course menu revisiting popular dishes from the past – from oyster and kartoffelschaumsuppe to pavlova with citrus. The team’s continuity, including sous chef Moritz Mehring and service professional Meri Koc, speaks to a culture of lasting quality.
EssensArt is a place where modern international cuisine meets genuine hospitality – and where every visit feels like a celebration of good taste.
