The story

Félix Hamburg – Classic French Bistro Cuisine with a Personal Twist, Michelin Recommended

A French Bistro with Character

At Restaurant Félix in Hamburg, Felix Bechtolf and his team welcome guests to a place that does two things at once. There is a rotating selection of classic French bistro dishes à la carte, and a more personal, France-inspired tasting menu – “without fuss, but with a very individual twist,” as they put it. The kitchen works only with the best ingredients, sourced with an eye on sustainability and local suppliers. This clear, honest approach earned Félix a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.

The Setting

The restaurant is located on Rupertistraße in the Othmarschen district, a short walk from the Elbe. Inside, the open kitchen lets you watch the chefs at work. When the weather cooperates, the garden offers outdoor seating – a rare pleasure in the city. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of place where good food and good wine are the only things that matter.

What to Expect

The menu changes regularly, so there is no fixed list of dishes to cite. What remains constant is the commitment to classic French cuisine, interpreted with subtle creativity. The wine list, extensive and well-curated, features Champagne, Burgundy, and German selections, including a house cuvée made specially for Félix by Weingut Marcus Hees. Whether you come for a simple bistro meal or the full tasting experience, the cooking is precise, the flavors clean, and the hospitality warm.

Concept A young French bistro located near the Elbe in a villa within a residential neighborhood. Features a rotating menu and à la carte options. Culinary Style The menu is as authentically French as Félix Bechtolf himself, who spent several years working in French kitchens. Drawing on this experience, he serves premium ingredients prepared in a classic style: Coquille Saint-Jacques with beurre blanc and spinach leaves, the masterfully crafted Pâté en Croûte Bourgeois (pâté in pastry crust) with foie gras and a savory herb salad. Richly aromatic is the generously loaded Bouillabaisse with rouille sauce and toasted bread. Rare in the north, yet all the more delightful, is the Ris de Veau (roasted calf's sweetbread) served with tartar sauce alongside potato salad dressed with pumpkin seed oil. Wine A lovely selection featuring some high-priced prestige bottles from France. Atmosphere The interior is unadorned, featuring dark blue tiles, small wooden tables, and an open kitchen. A pleasant outdoor area set in a gravel garden. Conclusion A casual French bistro with excellently executed classics.
