The story
Since 2002, Claudia and Peter Kölbl have been running this restaurant in Enkenbach-Alsenborn, a short drive from Kaiserslautern. Surrounded by the Palatinate Forest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the place is rooted in genuine hospitality. The family’s philosophy is simple: make tradition and modernity visible. Their kitchen follows this by focusing on regional products, supplemented by culinary highlights from further afield.
Kölbl’s approach to country cooking and international cuisine has earned it a Michelin recommendation. The restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy market-fresh ingredients. The menu changes with the seasons: asparagus weeks in spring, Austrian specialities in winter, and a popular mushroom season in autumn. The kitchen balances hearty local dishes with refined international touches, such as a Bouillabaise or a Barberie duck breast with cassis sauce.
The menu presents a clear, modern take on German country cooking. Starters include Vitello tonnato and smoked salmon with potato pancakes. Main courses range from a classic Kalbs-Cordon Bleu to Skrei cod with leek and mustard sauce. A vegetarian menu is also available, featuring dishes like truffle gnocchi and a red beet carpaccio. The wine list highlights excellent regional wines, complementing the food and the setting in the Palatinate Forest.
