The story
The Turmberg has been one of Karlsruhe’s most beloved excursion spots for generations. At the top, “Anders auf dem Turmberg” welcomes guests with a restaurant and a year-round Hofbistro, both offering panoramic views and a laid-back yet polished atmosphere. The venue also hosts winemaker evenings and seasonal wine parties, making it a lively hub for food and drink.
Inside the restaurant, concrete walls, wood-grained tables and simple décor set an urban, unpretentious tone. Comfortable armchairs invite you to linger over a menu that changes with the seasons. Regional and international influences meet in dishes built around game – much of it from Sören Anders’ own hunting. The wine list leans heavily on German producers, offering plenty of variety. Service is relaxed but attentive, and the atmosphere is “locker, aber durchaus mit Niveau” – casual, but with style.
The Hofbistro, with its wrap-around terraces, is one of the finest spots in the region for al fresco dining. It operates without reservations and serves a simpler menu of small plates: Caesar Salad Turmberg-Style, crispy potato wedges with lemon-herb cream, and flammkuchen. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine – from a Viertele to a double magnum – while watching the sunset. In cooler weather, blankets are provided to keep things comfortable.
Sören Anders describes himself as a “passionierter Koch und Entertainer,” and his personality runs through every part of the operation. His approach to cooking – seasonal, regional, and unfussy – has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a recognition that speaks to the consistent quality and genuine hospitality on offer. Whether you come for a tasting menu in the restaurant or a casual evening in the Hofbistro, the experience is distinctly Anders.
