The story

Zum Goldenen Anker – Country Cooking in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen near Karlsruhe

A Landgasthof with Deep Roots

In the heart of Eggenstein, just north of Karlsruhe, the Landgasthof Zum Goldenen Anker has been a fixture since 1726. The Radtke family now runs it, passing the operation from generation to generation, each bringing their own fresh energy. Their aim is simple: to create a hotel and restaurant where guests feel at home – filled with stories, memories, and genuine warmth.

Kitchen Anchored in the Seasons

The cooking here is firmly grounded in regional and seasonal produce – honest country cooking with care. The menu changes with what is available. There is a slowly braised Rinderroulade prepared according to the recipe of “Oma Emele”, a rosé-cooked Kalbsrücken with parsley root purée and wild broccoli, or Zander fillet cooked skin-side crisp with beurre blanc and pearl barley. For those who prefer plant-based, there is a dedicated vegan menu, with dishes such as risoni with wild mushrooms, pine nuts, and sugar snaps.

Composed menus of three or four courses let guests experience the kitchen’s range, while the daily lunch service offers hearty country plates like Schweinegulasch with noodles or Blumenkohl-Käsetaler – simple, satisfying, and aimed at the local community. On Saturdays the restaurant is closed to the public, reserved for private events.

Michelin Eyes on Tradition

This quiet, family-run approach has not gone unnoticed. The Michelin Guide has awarded Zum Goldenen Anker its Recommended status for 2026 – a recognition of the consistent quality found in these convivial dining rooms, where the kitchen never strays far from its seasonal, regional roots.

A Team with Character

Behind the stove and the service is a group the restaurant describes as “strong characters” – authentic, honest, and a little eccentric. The kitchen crew works with a playlist as eclectic as their skills. The restaurant is also a top training establishment, passing on knowledge to the next generation of hospitality professionals. It is this blend of soul, seasoning, and staying power that makes Zum Goldenen Anker a rare find in the Karlsruhe countryside.
