The story
At Landhaus Halferschenke in Dieblich, just outside Koblenz, the kitchen follows a clear philosophy: respect for nature and its resources. Chef Christoph Schmah and his team source the best regional products from trusted hunters, winemakers, and farmers—most of which are organic. They balance tradition with openness to new influences, resulting in honest, unpretentious creations. The restaurant’s Michelin Recommended status reflects this commitment to quality and the recognizable hand of a chef who has earned stars before.
Christoph Schmah’s career includes stints at several Michelin-starred and Gault-Millau-acclaimed restaurants across Germany, including the legendary Waldhotel Sonnora. In 2012, he became one of the youngest chefs to earn a Michelin star at Graf Leopold, and he repeated the feat in 2016 at Da Vinci in Koblenz. In 2020, together with his wife Carina, he revived the Halferschenke, turning it into a relaxed country inn with a distinctly personal touch. From April 2024, guests can also book Ma Petite Chambre, a small gourmet room for even more refined dining.
The atmosphere is deliberately informal yet elegant. The interior blends rustic Moselle tradition with modern design, creating a space where guests feel at home. The wine cellar is extensive, and the service is described as heartfelt and attentive. Outside, the terrace invites lingering over a glass of wine. Whether for a special occasion or a simple evening out, the Halferschenke offers a genuine taste of the region—with a level of craft that has earned it a place among Germany’s best.
