The story
Sandra and Marco Linden describe their kitchen at Zur Linde as “the story of German cuisine, grounded in classic French technique and shaped by a cosmopolitan outlook.” That philosophy translates into country cooking that feels both familiar and surprising. The restaurant sits in Mülheim-Kärlich, a short drive from Koblenz, and draws ingredients from within a fifty-kilometre radius – Eifel cheese, local game, and seasonal vegetables. This farm-to-table approach earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommendation for 2026, a nod to its honest, well-executed cooking.
The menu reads like a love letter to German and French comfort food, but with precise technique. Start with a Variation vom Eifler Ziegenkäse – goat cheese from Vulkanhof Gillenfeld, paired with beetroot carpaccio, apple chutney, and toasted walnuts. Or the Mülheimer Hamburger, a clever local take: smoked salmon, potato pancakes, and dill-mustard sauce. Among the mains, the Wiener Schnitzel vom Kalbsrücken (veal, lemon, lingonberries) is a classic done right, while the Cordon bleu vom Eifler Landschwein uses local ham and mountain cheese. For something richer, the sanft geschmorte Rinderbacke (beef cheek braised in Pinot Noir jus) with savoy cabbage and mashed potatoes is deeply satisfying. Desserts include a half-liquid chocolate cake with berry compote and egg liqueur ice cream, or Lindens Spaghettieis – vanilla ice cream pressed into spaghetti shapes, topped with caramelised nuts and nut liqueur from a nearby distillery.
The dining room is air-conditioned in summer, and there’s outdoor seating for warmer days. Reservations are taken only by phone – a personal touch that matches the restaurant’s character. Marco and Sandra Linden run the front of house themselves, ensuring every guest feels welcome. The kitchen is open Wednesday through Sunday, with a lunch service and dinner service; Monday and Tuesday are rest days. Whether you come for a three- or four-course menu (from 59,50 €) or a la carte, the cooking stays true to its roots: heartfelt, regional, and quietly accomplished.
