The story
The Ganter Hotel & Restaurant Mohren has been welcoming guests for over 200 years, occupying a central spot on the tranquil island of Reichenau in Lake Constance, near Konstanz. The restaurant brings this history of hospitality together with a clear focus on the present: creative, modern cooking rooted in the ingredients that grow and thrive just steps from the kitchen.
The kitchen team at the Mohren places strong emphasis on regionality and seasonality, relying on produce from the island and the wider Lake Constance area. The menu changes with the seasons, offering dishes that are at once familiar and surprising. Starters might include vitello tonnato with green asparagus or grilled scallops with wasabi foam. Main courses range from crispy pike-perch fillet in Riesling sauce to beef fillet in green pepper crust, and there are vegetarian options such as pumpkin gnocchi with Parmesan espuma. Desserts like plum parfait with Italian meringue and baked chocolate praline with ginger round out the experience.
This commitment to fresh, local ingredients aligns with a farm-to-table philosophy, making every meal a reflection of the region’s bounty. It is also one of the reasons the restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a recognition of the consistent quality and thoughtful sourcing.
The Mohren offers several distinct spaces to dine, each with its own character. The main restaurant is bright and modern, with room for 40 guests. For a cozier evening, there is the Ratsstube with its wooden paneling from 1925 and a tiled stove, or the rustic Zirbelstube. The Ganter Stüble provides an intimate setting for small groups, and the Abt-Strabo Hall hosts larger celebrations. In warm weather, the terrace and garden open up for al fresco dining overlooking the island’s peaceful landscape.
Whether in a historic parlor or on the sunlit terrace, the atmosphere is unhurried and welcoming – a place where seasonal food and genuine hospitality come together naturally.
