The story
For over four decades, the Lentz and Mayer families have been the heart of Harmonie in Lichtenberg. Since 1981, this restaurant on the Schloßberg has been in family hands, and since 2006, sisters Susanne Däumer-Lentz and Iris Mayer have taken the lead. Their approach is refreshingly direct: fresh, seasonal, and regional ingredients, prepared with care and without shortcuts. No reheating, no thawing, no flavour enhancers. Every soup and sauce is made from scratch. This honest commitment to quality earned Harmonie a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, recognising good quality, good value cooking.
The kitchen, led by chef Iris Mayer, focuses on country cooking that lets the ingredients speak. The menu changes with the seasons, blending regional specialities with modern and Mediterranean touches. Guests might find a starter of Franconian slate truffle soup, a house signature, or carpaccio of veal fillet with salad from the Ernst Gärtnerei in nearby Bad Steben. Main courses range from filet of sea bass and medallions of straw pork to slow-cooked boiled beef from organic pasture-raised cattle and Oldenburger duck served on Sunday lunch. The cooking is unhurried, honest, and deeply flavourful.
The atmosphere at Harmonie is warm and unpretentious. The restaurant describes itself as a place of calm and relaxation, where genuine hospitality comes from the heart. The service team, led by restaurant manager Susanne Däumer-Lentz, pairs the food with wines primarily from Franconia, beers from small local breweries, and mineral water from the Höllental. The setting, built on the foundations of a medieval castle tower, has a long history as a gathering place. Today, it remains just that – a spot for an enjoyable meal with friends or a quiet escape from the everyday.
