The story
At Ratsstube in Limbach-Oberfrohna, the kitchen is a family affair. Chef Ronny Pester, joined by his wife Antje as restaurant manager, daughter Emily in service, and former apprentice Fynn as his right hand, runs this intimate restaurant with a clear philosophy: fresh, honest, and authentic cooking. After years of honing his craft in Bavaria, Pester returned to his hometown to open Ratsstube, and the result has earned the restaurant a place in the Michelin guide.
Pester’s menu, titled “Le Grand Voyage by Ronny Pester,” is a tasting experience that draws on global inspirations while staying rooted in local, seasonal products. The current offering includes dishes like hand-dipped scallops from the charcoal grill, paired with edamame, tofu, and XO sauce, or a combination of morel and veal with root vegetables, barley, and Parmesan. A vegetarian version, “Flora,” is available upon request. The meal is designed to be a leisurely affair, comparable to a concert visit, lasting several hours.
The restaurant’s wine list is a carefully curated selection from Germany, Austria, and France, with a strong focus on Saxony’s own vineyards, such as Weingut Schloss Proschwitz and Weingut Martin Schwarz. Guests can also opt for an alcohol-free beverage pairing. The setting is relaxed and welcoming, with a biergarten for warmer months. Ratsstube is open Wednesday through Sunday from 6:00 PM, offering a space where the focus is squarely on the plate and the company.
