The story
In the heart of the romantic Lahntal, between the Taunus and Westerwald, the Landhotel zum Bären has been a fixture for those seeking a genuinely good meal. The restaurant is part of a family-run hotel, and its atmosphere is one of unhurried comfort. Guests can choose between the rustic “am Kachelofen” room with its tiled stove, the elegant “Bibliothek” lined with antique books and dark wood, or the Mediterranean terrace for warm-weather dining.
The kitchen team works with fresh, seasonal products to create a style they describe as regional cuisine with French and Mediterranean accents. The menu changes regularly, but always balances tradition with refinement. Starters might include a tartare of Norwegian wild salmon with potato rösti and green sauce, or a duo of scallop – carpaccio and grilled – with blood orange and pistachio. Among the main courses, you’ll find a classic Wiener Schnitzel with fried potatoes, a rosy lamb saddle with basil risotto, and a homemade beef roulade with apple red cabbage. For those who prefer something lighter, there are vegetarian options such as panko-crusted feta with sweet potato and spinach.
Desserts like crème brûlée with grapefruit sorbet or a chocolate-banana creation with bergamot sorbet round off the meal.
The restaurant’s commitment to quality has earned it a place in the Michelin guide as a Recommended restaurant for 2026. This recognition reflects the consistent execution of classical dishes with modern touches, all sourced from trusted regional suppliers.
The wine list is carefully chosen and worth exploring – the restaurant even offers a dedicated “Weinstube” for afternoon glasses. From Thursday to Sunday, a three-course Bären Lunch is available for 39 euros, offering a more accessible way to experience the kitchen’s work.
Restaurant zum Bären is open Thursday through Sunday, with the kitchen serving continuously from 12:00 to 21:00. Monday to Wednesday are rest days.
