The story
In the heart of Mainz-Finthen, Steins Traube has been a family affair for over 110 years. The restaurant’s story begins around 1870, and since 1906, the Stein family has guided its evolution from a simple pub to a destination for refined dining. Today, the baton is held by Philipp and Alina Stein, who took over from Philipp’s parents in 2019. The couple has brought fresh energy, overseeing a refurbishment that balances modern elegance with the warmth of cherished tradition.
The atmosphere reflects this duality: guests can choose between an elegant à la carte area or a cosy winter garden. The kitchen, led by Philipp Stein, focuses on classic cuisine, refined and precise. His training in award-winning kitchens like the Tantris in Munich and the Ente in Wiesbaden is evident in the careful, sophisticated approach to each dish. The restaurant’s commitment to high quality has been recognized with a Michelin star, a testament to its consistent excellence.
The wine list is equally well-considered, a natural complement to the food. Steins Traube also offers outdoor seating for warmer months and benefits from its own parking. The restaurant’s long history, combined with the current generation’s dedication, creates a dining experience that feels both established and fresh.
