The story
The Molitor family has been welcoming guests to their hotel "Die Post" in Meerfeld for five generations. Set within the peaceful crater basin of the Meerfelder Maar, the property combines a wellness retreat with a restaurant that has earned serious recognition: a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The award highlights Poststuben’s ability to deliver good quality, good value cooking — exactly the kind of country cooking that draws repeat visitors.
Chef Sven Molitor leads the kitchen, sourcing fresh ingredients from local producers whenever possible. The menu is grounded in the traditions of the Eifel region, but the execution shows a light, modern hand. Starters like the kräftige Pilzessenz (mushroom consommé with pancake strips) or Erbsenmousse on pumpernickel with coppa from a "Glücksschwein" set the tone. Main courses stay true to the land: spinach-cheese dumplings (Spinat-Käse-Knödel) with a fresh salad, a pan-fried schnitzel from the same lucky pig, or a slow-braised beef roulade with apple red cabbage and dumplings. Even the Eifeler Wildbratwurst comes with wild jus and silky potato purée.
The dining rooms are stylish yet comfortable, with a terrace for warmer days. Service is attentive and friendly. Alongside the food, the restaurant boasts a wine list focused on German wines from top producers — a natural fit for the region. The Bib Gourmand recognition is not just a badge; it reflects the consistent, honest country cooking that makes Poststuben a destination for anyone exploring the Vulkaneifel’s culinary landscape.
