The story
Gasthaus Kräutergarten is a family-run restaurant in Wachtberg-Adendorf, near Meckenheim, that has built a reputation for its warm hospitality and precise, seasonal cooking. The kitchen focuses on classic cuisine, prepared à la minute from fresh, regional ingredients. What sets the cooking apart is the use of herbs and spices grown in the restaurant’s own garden, lending each dish a distinctive, aromatic character.
The dining room is welcoming and unpretentious, with a service team led by Astrid Jungbluth, whose attentive, professional manner makes guests feel at ease. In warmer months, the idyllic outdoor terrace offers a peaceful setting for a meal under the sun. This combination of genuine hospitality and careful cooking has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
The menu changes with the seasons, drawing on what is freshest from local suppliers. A well-curated wine list of around 200 selections, with a preference for German producers alongside European and New World bottles, complements the food. The kitchen’s approach is modern without losing sight of tradition – a subtle, confident take on classic cuisine that lets ingredients speak for themselves.
