The story
Since 1986, Restaurant Kurlbaum has been a fixture for refined dining in Moers and the lower left Rhine region. The interior, designed by Professor Clara Saal, creates a modern yet timelessly elegant atmosphere – a setting that lets the food speak for itself. The kitchen focuses on classic cuisine built from erlesenen Zutaten bester Qualität, prepared fresh daily. This commitment to quality earned Kurlbaum a Michelin Recommended distinction in the 2026 guide.
Rather than a static carte, Kurlbaum offers regularly changing monthly menus that highlight seasonal produce. A recent four-course option featured Maishähnchensalat with celery, fennel and pear, followed by a risotto of three rices with paprika and trout, then Sauerbraten from ox cheek paired with a small beef fillet steak, and closing with crème brûlée and a cocoa-rum parfait. The vegetarian menu is equally thoughtful, with dishes like buckwheat crêpe with leek, creamy polenta with mushrooms and spinach, and passion fruit-poppy seed trifle. For lighter lunches, a two-course bistro menu is served in the ground-floor bistro area, offering dishes such as marinated halibut or orange chicken.
The wine list is a point of pride, featuring over 200 exceptional bottles from Germany, France and Italy. Open wines by the glass change regularly – recent selections included a Grauburgunder from Weingut Klumpp and a Sancerre from Domaine Pabiot. Dessert wine pairings, like a Moscato d’Asti or Muscat de Rivesaltes, round out the meal.
Kurlbaum’s classic cuisine, bistro offerings, and dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients make it a destination worth seeking out in Moers.
