The story
Since 1907, the Linck family has run Gasthof Sternenschanz in the small town of Ötisheim, near Mühlacker. What began as a brewery tavern has remained in the same hands for over a hundred years, evolving with each generation while holding fast to its core values: tradition, down-to-earth cooking, and a deep respect for ingredients.
That respect comes from the family’s historical ties to farming. It informs every dish on the menu, where seasonality and regional sourcing are not marketing slogans but daily practice. The kitchen concentrates on preserving the natural flavour of each product, preparing everything à la minute with care rather than chasing trends. The result is honest, unpretentious country cooking that has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended award for 2026.
The menu changes with the seasons but always features Swabian classics made with precision. Look for house-made Maultaschen (pasta pockets) served in a clear broth or as Lachsmaultäschchen with spinach and saffron sauce. Hearty mains include geschmorte Schweinebäckchen (braised pork cheeks) with wild mushrooms and Wirsingspätzle, or a classic Wiener Schnitzel from the veal loin. For dessert, the Schwarzwaldbecher – a layered mix of vanilla and chocolate ice cream with sour cherries and a splash of Kirschwasser – is a local favourite.
The setting is equally welcoming: a cosy Wirtsstube for intimate dinners, larger modern rooms for celebrations, and a lovely garden for relaxed summer evenings. The family’s philosophy – “traditionell, bodenständig und voller Leidenschaft” – is felt in every detail, from the attentive service to the carefully sourced ingredients. Sternenschanz is open Tuesday to Saturday evenings, with Sunday and Monday as rest days.
