The story
Since 1987, the name Villa Medici has stood for Italian, Mediterranean pleasures made with fresh, seasonal produce. Now located in Münster’s St. Mauritz district, the restaurant has evolved into one of Germany’s most acclaimed Italian houses, earning consistent recognition from gourmet guides including a recommendation from Michelin.
Under the leadership of Martino Resta, who took over in 2018 after years working alongside founder Carmelo Caputo, Villa Medici continues its tradition of creative, imaginative Italian cuisine. Head chef Pascal Erdhütter and his team craft a monthly changing degustation menu alongside the à la carte offerings, with dishes that are harmoniously composed. The March 2026 menu, for example, features flamed wild salmon with radish, apple, and cucumber; raviolini with cauliflower, nut butter, and egg yolk cream; and a lamb duo with caponata vegetables and gremolata potato purée.
The wine list represents renowned vintners from nearly all regions of Italy, while lovers of German white wines are also well catered for.
The restaurant’s time- less elegance is complemented by a beautiful veranda overlooking greenery, an enoteca, and a boardinghouse for gourmet travellers. The dining room’s chairs were specially designed for the space by noted designer Dieter Sieger. This commitment to style and substance has earned Villa Medici a Michelin recommendation, as well as accolades from Gault & Millau, Bertelsmann, and other leading guides.
The à la carte menu offers classics with a refined touch: antipasti featuring vitello tonnato and goat cheese, truffle tortelloni in cream sauce, and a rich ossobuco of braised beef cheek with celery and market vegetables. The signature Tiramisu Villa Medici, with mascarpone, espresso, and biscuit, is a fitting finale. A three-course Sunday roast menu and a weekday lunch carte provide further reasons to visit regularly.
