The story
Ostaria da Gino is the realization of a dream that began 45 years ago, when an eight-year-old boy named Gino left Avola, Sicily, for the small town of Nagold in Baden-Württemberg. Decades later, in a former bakery, that dream has taken shape: a place where the warmth of a family home meets the honest flavors of regional Italian cooking. The result is a hybrid of trattoria and osteria – an “Ostaria” – that sits in the heart of Nagold, surrounded by friends.
The restaurant’s seasonal Italian cuisine reflects Gino’s Sicilian roots and the best of the region’s produce. The kitchen rotates with the calendar, favoring simple, bold preparations. The menu changes with the seasons, drawing on local ingredients and the culinary traditions of Sicily and mainland Italy. Beyond the plate, the atmosphere is informal and welcoming – a mix of rustic charm and genuine hospitality. Outdoor seating extends the experience into the warmer months, making it easy to linger over a meal.
In 2026, Michelin recognized Ostaria da Gino with a Recommended distinction, praising its authentic, unfussy approach. The award underscores what regulars already know: this is a place where food and friendship are inseparable. The welcome, as the house says, is “Salute da Gino und willkommen bei Freunden” – a toast from Gino and a welcome among friends.
