The story
In the heart of Oberstdorf, Das Jagdhaus occupies a listed building that once hosted Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria for his festivities. Today, it remains a place where locals and holidaymakers gather over honest, well-crafted food. The atmosphere is warm and convivial – wood-paneled stuben, a beer garden opening in May, and a small playground for children.
The kitchen calls it “the culinary heritage of the Prince Regent” – a refined take on the Allgäu Wirtshaus tradition. There are no exotic fruits, no air-freighted goods, no meat from factory farming. Vegetables come from nearby Lake Constance, fish from local waters, beef and veal from the Alps, and game from the surrounding forests. This isn’t a marketing label; it’s simply how the team operates. The result is a hearty, seasonal menu that changes with what the land provides.
The 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand recognizes this commitment to good quality and good value cooking – a fitting accolade for a kitchen that treats regional sourcing as a matter of course, not a trend.
Das Jagdhaus serves lunch and dinner in its cozy dining rooms, with the kitchen open continuously until 9 pm. The beer garden offers a more casual setting under the open sky. Parking is available, and the restaurant is a short walk from the train station. Given its popularity, a reservation is recommended.
