The story
At DAS MAXI - GENUSSREICH, the kitchen team composes creative dishes with exceptional attention to detail. The cuisine is international with a seasonal focus, drawing lightly on French and Mediterranean traditions while keeping the region in clear view. The result is a menu that pleases both the palate and the eye – available à la carte or as a carefully orchestrated three-to-five-course tasting menu, each paired with matching wines.
Michelin has recognised this approach with a Recommended distinction, a quiet nod to the precision and care that define every plate. The atmosphere is refined yet unhurried: guests are encouraged to lean back, enjoy, and lose track of time in a space where service is attentive without being intrusive.
In warmer months, the experience extends outdoors. The Champagnergarten – a leafy spot under open skies – and the sunny south balcony offer setting for the same refined cooking, framed by Allgäu views. Diners often find themselves torn between the plate and the panorama.
The kitchen works with what the season brings, sourcing ingredients that are at their peak. Dishes change regularly, which keeps the menu alive and the dining experience fresh. Whether you choose a single course or the full tasting sequence, the guiding principle is the same: honest, creative cooking that lets the produce speak.
DAS MAXI opens its doors at 18:00 and is closed on Sundays. A reservation is essential. Parking is available on site, but note that pets are not permitted in the restaurant. The restaurant is part of the Das Freiberg Romantik Hotel, a family-run boutique hotel in Oberstdorf that also houses two other dining concepts and a spa.
