The story
Since October 1972, the Wilbrand family has welcomed guests to the Hotel Restaurant Zur Post in the picturesque town of Odenthal, in the Bergisches Land region just outside Cologne. Today, the brothers Christopher and Alejandro Wilbrand run the house, carrying forward a tradition of genuine hospitality that spans more than five decades. The property includes a rustic pub, the Postschänke, a comfortable hotel, and the formal Gourmetrestaurant – the latter having earned a Michelin star every year since 2004.
The brothers’ kitchen is rooted in both Mediterranean and regional ideas, drawing on recipes from home and across Europe. The result is a cuisine that balances creativity with a respect for local ingredients. The Gourmetrestaurant seats up to 35 guests in a modern, understated setting, creating the right atmosphere for a focused, unhurried meal. The menu changes regularly, but recent offerings have included pavé of duck liver with smoked eel and apple, roasted monkfish with champagne jus and citrus mornay, and dry-aged beef fillet with morels and celeriac. A vegetarian menu is available on advance request. The wine pairing, from a carefully curated list, is offered in four, five, or six courses.
For a more casual visit, the Postschänke serves lunch and dinner in a warm, rustic setting – and it is here that dogs are welcome. The hotel’s Odenthaler Festsaal hosts events and celebrations, while the brothers also act as official "Genussbotschafter" (ambassadors of taste) for the Bergisches Land, promoting the region’s culinary identity. The Wilbrands’ annual "Küchenparty" in June, a summer highlight, brings together guest chefs, winemakers, and partners for a festive evening of food and drink.
