The story
In the quiet Black Forest village of Berghaupten, just a few minutes from Offenburg, the Faißt family has been welcoming guests since 1928. Now in its fourth generation, the Hotel-Restaurant Hirsch is a place where hospitality feels natural and unhurried. A friendly greeting at the door, attentive service throughout the meal, and a genuine sense of care set the tone.
The kitchen at Hirsch draws on the best of the Baden region, with seasonal and local ingredients taking center stage. Traditional dishes are complemented by French and Mediterranean accents, resulting in a menu that feels both familiar and refined. Starters like beetroot carpaccio with fried king prawns or homemade goose liver terrine with Traminer jelly show the kitchen’s precision. Main courses range from classic pan-fried pork schnitzel to saddle of venison with red wine sauce and Spätzle, or Skrei cod on braised chicory. Vegetarian options include saffron risotto with tomato ragout.
The Guide Michelin has awarded Hirsch a Bib Gourmand, highlighting its good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant is also a recipient of the “Schönes Gasthaus” award. These honors reflect the consistency and care that define the dining experience here.
When the weather cooperates, meals are served on a lovely garden terrace, where guests can pair their food with wines from the sun-drenched Ortenau region. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming – a place where you can linger over a meal without pretense. Whether stopping for a hearty dinner after a hike or enjoying a multi-course evening, Hirsch delivers country cooking at its most satisfying.
