The story
At Restaurant Alexander Huber in Pleiskirchen, chef Alexander Huber blends old with new, tradition with modernity. The setting is a family-run guesthouse with over 400 years of history – the Huberwirt. In 2026, this commitment to high-quality cooking earned the restaurant a Michelin star, a recognition of its precise, regionally rooted modern cuisine.
Alexander Huber is the first trained chef in the family's four-century lineage. After honing his craft at renowned kitchens including Munich's Tantris, he returned home in 2005 to take over the stoves. Together with his wife Sandra Huber, he has reshaped the family business into two distinct experiences: the convivial "Wirtshaus Huberwirt" with an à la carte menu of classic specialties, and the more exclusive "Restaurant Alexander Huber," where guests enjoy multi-course tasting menus.
The restaurant's approach is one of "Bayerische Avantgarde" – a forward-looking take on country cooking that prizes top-quality, regional ingredients. The atmosphere matches the food's refined sensibility. Guests can dine in the intimate Gaststube 1612, the Dorfstube, or the Huberwirtsstube, each described as "behaglich, vertraut und herzlich" – cozy, familiar, and warm. For larger gatherings, the Zeitlos hall accommodates up to 150 guests, while a newly designed terrace offers outdoor seating in lounge-style comfort during warmer months.
The wine program, curated by Sandra Huber and sommelier Simone Rosenberger, complements the kitchen's work. The Huberwirts Vinothek, a space modelled after a wine cellar, seats up to 75 and is available for private events.
Whether in the Michelin-starred restaurant or the traditional Wirtshaus, the Huber family's guiding principle remains constant: hospitality rooted in genuine warmth, excellent service, and pure enjoyment of the table.
