The story
In July 1995, Petra and Ulrich Heldmann arrived at the Böker Villa on Brüderstraße in Remscheid to realise their dream of independence. More than 25 years later, they still run their Genuss-Restaurant with the same passion, offering a style of classic cuisine that is fresh, regional, and refreshingly unpretentious. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service attentive yet easy-going, and the setting—a special villa—adds to the experience.
The Heldmanns bring their full knowledge and years of experience to the table. They compare a visit to their restaurant to a trip to the theatre: enter and enjoy with all your senses. This philosophy is reflected in every dish, from their hearty country cooking to the more refined offerings on the Herzhaft Menü. The kitchen adapts to guests with allergies, intolerances, or vegan and vegetarian preferences, provided they are informed in advance.
The restaurant is also wheelchair accessible, and dogs are welcome with a prior reservation so a suitable table can be arranged. For those looking for a midday break, the new Mittags-Glück lunch concept offers a lighter, satisfying option. Diners can also explore the small but carefully curated wine list, with köstliche Weine available by the bottle.
The quality and consistency of Heldmann & Herzhaft’s straightforward, flavour-driven cooking have been recognised by the Michelin Guide, which awarded the restaurant a Recommended status in 2026. This recognition underscores the Heldmanns’ commitment to honest, seasonal cuisine in a setting that feels both special and genuinely welcoming.
