The story
Landgasthof Adler in Reutlingen has served seasonal Swabian cuisine since the fifth generation of the Schäfer family took the reins in 2003. The building itself began as a modest grocery shop in the mid-eighteenth century before Marie Schäfer converted it into a proper inn by the century’s close. Tim Schäfer now guides the kitchen alongside his wife Yvonne, preserving a straightforward approach to regional ingredients. Their meals focus on what the local harvest provides at any given time.
The kitchen builds its menu around local produce, favoring clean preparation over heavy decoration. Recent press features highlight dishes like a crisp crepinette made from veal fillet resting on a rich chanterelle ragout. This combination illustrates how the restaurant balances classic Swabian cuisine with careful plating. Every plate reflects a commitment to sourcing that changes with the seasons.
What once functioned as a town meeting hall and gymnasium now offers a relaxed dining room where families and locals gather. Martin and Annemarie Schäfer expanded the original space during the nineteen seventies, adding guest quarters and a dedicated kitchen area. The Schlemmer Atlas recognized this consistent quality with two spoons in their 2026 guide. Guests step into a venue that values steady hospitality over fleeting trends.
