The story
“Truth, simplicity and naturalness are the only solid pillars of true happiness.” This quote, from 19th-century writer Heribert Rau, sets the tone at Landhaus Hohenlohe. Here, cooking is reduced to the essential: clarity and lightness. As the team puts it, “The seemingly simple creates lasting memories.” It’s an approach that earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction, and it’s one they live by every day.
Chef Matthias Mack is the force behind the stove. He unites the soul of the Hohenlohe region with the aromas of Mediterranean lightness. The result is flavorful, honest food – without compromise. Sustainability begins in their own garden, where fresh vegetables and herbs are grown and harvested. That garden-freshness is at the heart of every dish.
The Landhaus is a true country inn. The dining room features an open kitchen, a cosy open fire, and wooden benches that invite lingering. Large windows look out onto the surrounding fields and the cows grazing behind the house. In summer, the terrace and garden lounge offer a shady spot for light dishes and spritzy cocktails. It’s a place where you can feel at home, whether you’re on holiday, a business trip, or passing through by motorcycle, vintage car, or bicycle.
For groups of six to twelve, the newly added Chefs Table offers a private dining experience in a “gemütlich-edler” (cosy-elegant) setting – the kitchen workshop. It’s ideal for those who want to be undisturbed while enjoying the kitchen’s best work.
Landhaus Hohenlohe doesn’t chase points or cutlery symbols. Their goal is simply to make guests happy. Yet the recognition has come: alongside the Michelin Recommended award, they hold a Bib Gourmand, 5.5 pans in Gusto, and a tip in Varta. It’s proof that simplicity, done well, is anything but simple.
