The story
Just outside Rothenburg ob der Tauber, in the quiet hamlet of Tauberzell, Landhaus zum Falken stands on ground that has seen four centuries of hospitality. Its thick stone walls once echoed with the chatter of Landsknechte enjoying bread and Tauber wine. Today, after careful renovations, the inn has become a modern gastronomic operation that remains deeply rooted in tradition.
The kitchen here focuses on straightforward, high-quality country cooking. This commitment to honest, well-prepared food earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award that recognises good quality cooking at a reasonable price. The menu changes with the seasons, and the restaurant’s own beekeeping (Imkerei) hints at a farm-to-table ethic that runs through the kitchen.
The dining rooms blend the building’s historic character with contemporary comfort. Guests can enjoy the outdoor seating when the weather allows, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, a place where the food and the setting speak for themselves.
Zum Falken is open Wednesday to Saturday from 17:00, and Sunday from 11:30 to 14:00 and again from 17:00. The kitchen serves lunch on request. Reservations are recommended, as opening hours may vary. Parking is available on site.
