The story
Deep in the Frankenwald, the Schütz family has been welcoming guests for four generations. Today, Claudia and Alexander Schütz run Gasthof Berghof – Ursprung, a place where cosmopolitan openness meets Franconian warmth. The restaurant Ursprung, with its stylish ambience, invites guests to dine, celebrate, and simply feel at home. Here, the connection to family and nature is the source – the “Ursprung” – of their culinary identity.
The kitchen’s guiding principle is “Tradition trifft Moderne”. Every dish is crafted from fresh, regional ingredients, prepared with honesty and care. The cooking ranges from straightforward to refined, but always remains aromatic and seasonal. This is authentic country cooking, deeply rooted in Franconian traditions. On Sundays and public holidays, the kitchen presents classic Franconian roast dishes and a three-course menu that showcases the best of the region’s larder.
The dedication to quality has not gone unnoticed. The restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a testament to its good quality, good value cooking. Additional praise comes from Gusto (6 Pfannen) and Varta-Führer (1 Diamant & Varta Tipp Küche). Chef Alexander Schütz shares his love for Franconian cuisine beyond the restaurant: he hosts the TV show “Einfach Lecker” and has published the cookbook “Mein fränkisches Craftfutter”, a personal collection of his craft.
The restaurant’s stylish interior and the separate Pop-up Restaurant Tonis provide space for private events, from family celebrations to business gatherings, accommodating up to 60 guests. In warmer months, the beer garden opens, offering outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. Whether enjoying a quiet dinner or a festive occasion, guests experience the genuine hospitality that defines this family-run Gasthof.
