The story
At Sankt Peter-Ording’s Böhler Strand, a historic wooden platform once known as the Pfahlbau has been given new life. After 44 years as a family-run landmark, it now houses Salt & Silver am Meer – a fish grill and strandbar where the focus is on fire, sea, and season.
The team behind Salt & Silver began in Hamburg, travelling the world for inspiration. Here on the North Sea coast, they look closer to home. Beef and lamb come from cattle and sheep grazing on local salt meadows. Mussels and oysters are sourced from the North Sea, and vegetables from nearby farms are transformed into simple yet refined vegetarian dishes. Everything is cooked over an open fire – crisp, smoky, and full of flavour.
The setting is as striking as the food. Eight metres above the sand, the terrace offers a wide view over the ocean. The atmosphere is relaxed, more beach bar than formal restaurant. The wine list leans heavily on German bottles, many organic or natural.
Michelin has recognised the restaurant's approach, awarding it a Recommended distinction. It is a fitting nod to cooking that is both direct and thoughtful – Mediterranean influences filtered through a Nordic, coastal lens.
Salt & Silver am Meer closes for the season and reopens on 28 March 2026.
