The story
Restaurant Störmann brings a grounded approach to regional cuisine from its base in Schmallenberg. Family Deimann took over the historic property in 2016 and sources fresh ingredients directly from the surrounding countryside. A Josper grill oven anchors their daily service, supporting a rotating menu built around what local farms deliver each week. This Sauerland kitchen favors straightforward techniques over heavy sauces.
The restaurant sits in the middle of Schmallenberg’s historic old town, where guests settle into style-appropriate parlors. Wooden tables rest beneath warm lighting, while a dedicated beer counter and quiet bar offer alternatives for casual conversation. The Schlemmer Atlas recognized this layout for its comfortable pacing and reliable execution. Regular visitors often return for the steady service rhythm and the unpretentious surroundings.
Johann Anton Störmann opened his first guesthouse in 1769, establishing a lineage that continues under new stewardship. The original family ran the establishment until health reasons prompted a handover to the Deimann family in early 2016. Extensive structural updates followed, including new heating systems and a redesigned kitchen area. The 250th anniversary celebration in 2019 marked how seamlessly the new owners preserved the core values of attentive service and an honest local table.
