The story
At Cube by Mika in Schwerin, chef Mika Drouin brings together European and Asian influences with a focus on precision and flavour. The kitchen is described as aromatic, intensive, and minimalist – a style that translates directly onto the plate. The restaurant’s concept is rooted in the Japanese izakaya tradition: small, boldly seasoned dishes designed for sharing, served without a fixed sequence so the meal unfolds naturally.
Most evenings, Cube by Mika operates as an izakaya from 17:00 to 22:00, Tuesday to Saturday. The à la carte selection changes regularly, built around fresh ingredients prepared à la minute. Guests order a mix of plates – from gyozas and tuna sashimi to roti paratha and Thai salad – and the table shares everything. It’s relaxed, social, and unpretentious.
Once a month, the restaurant transforms for a Chef’s Table degustation. Limited to just twelve seats at two counter tables, the experience offers a direct view of the kitchen as the team composes, plates, and serves a twelve-course menu. The menu changes seasonally; a recent example included nigiri, a macaron of red cabbage with eel and foie gras, and a dessert of chocolate with crème brûlée ice cream and yuzu. The evening begins at 18:00, and reservations are essential.
Cube by Mika’s consistent quality and value have earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand – a distinction that rewards good cooking at a reasonable price. It’s a fitting nod to a restaurant that makes refined, ingredient-driven izakaya cuisine accessible without ceremony.
The space itself is minimal, the cooking direct. Whether you come for a few small plates or the full degustation, Cube by Mika delivers a clear, confident take on Euro-Asian dining in Schwerin.
