The story

Gasthaus Sternen in Singen – Modern Cuisine in a Historic Setting

A New Chapter for a Centuries-Old Inn

The Gasthaus Sternen in the Bohlingen district of Singen is a place where history runs deep. The building’s story begins in 1450, when a community and town hall was erected on this spot beside the Aach river. Destroyed in the Peasants' War, rebuilt, then consumed by flames during the Thirty Years' War, it rose again in 1667. Since then, it has served as a school, a council house, and for nearly two hundred years, a Gasthaus under the name "Zum Sternen." The half-timbered facade, uncovered in 1971, now stands as the visual heart of the village.

In March 2026, a new chapter opens. Marvin Prell and Kyra Gorowicz take over the kitchen and dining room, bringing a clear philosophy: "The Sternen should remain a place where good food is enjoyed – sometimes refined, sometimes down-to-earth." Their approach is grounded in the region and the rhythm of the seasons, a commitment that earned the Gasthaus a Michelin Recommendation for 2026.

Regional and Seasonal by Design

Prell and Gorowicz build their modern cuisine on a foundation of local sourcing. Meat comes from regional farms, preferably organic. Fish is sourced from nearby producers, with a focus on Lake Constance. Vegetables arrive directly from the village or surrounding fields. The menu follows what the land and lake provide, changing with the seasons. The goal is for guests to taste the place they are in – to experience craftsmanship and a sense of home on the plate.

The dining room reflects this same care. The historic building has been meticulously renovated, with the half-timbered structure preserved and the interior brought up to modern standards. Outdoor seating is available, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible.

A Place for Tradition and Innovation

The Gasthaus Sternen aims to be a meeting point where tradition and innovation coexist. The kitchen respects the past but is not bound by it. The result is a menu that feels both familiar and fresh, rooted in the Black Forest and Lake Constance region yet open to contemporary techniques. Whether for a quiet dinner or a Sunday lunch, the Sternen invites guests to discover the best of what the region offers, prepared with skill and passion.

With Marvin Prell and Kyra Gorowicz at the helm, this historic Gasthaus is writing its next story – one that honors its long heritage while looking forward.
