The story
At the Sonnenalp resort in Ofterschwang, the gourmet restaurant Silberdistel has held a Michelin star since 2010, a recognition it has defended every year since. The restaurant sits within the 5-star hotel, but has been open to external guests since its star year, making it accessible to anyone seeking a special evening in the Allgäu region.
The kitchen is led by chef Florian Wagenbach, whose team produces classic cuisine that balances tradition with modern sophistication. The restaurant also holds three cooking spoons in the Schlemmer Atlas and 16 points in Gault Millau.
Diners choose between two tasting experiences. On Fridays and Sundays, the “Classics” menu showcases à la carte gourmet dishes built on freshness, regionality, and sustainability. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the “Visionary” menu explores modern fusion cuisine—an elegant blend of regional ingredients with international techniques. The Visionary menu is offered in five, six, or seven courses (from €149 to €189).
The dining room embraces Alpine elegance, with panoramic windows framing the Allgäu mountain panorama. Restaurant manager Naomi Merz oversees the floor and also curates a wine list of over 450 bottles from the Sonnenalp cellar. Guests can also taste the hotel’s own “Fäßler & Salomon – Private Selection” wines, available exclusively at the resort since 2015.
Whether you choose the starched linen of the Silberdistel or one of the resort’s eight other dining rooms (such as the wood-paneled Jäger-Stube or the light-filled Bergfeuer-Stube), the experience is rooted in Allgäu hospitality—genuine, unhurried, and refined.
