The story
Gengs Linde in Stühlingen-Mauchen is a family-run restaurant that proudly spans four generations, yet approaches its craft with a young, fresh energy. “Tradition and modernity are not opposites for us, but part of our philosophy,” the team writes. Set in a building more than 300 years old, the restaurant is the heart of a small hotel (three-star since 2015) and a guest house, all surrounded by the rolling landscapes of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park.
Quality is the guiding principle here. The kitchen sources the best local ingredients from known suppliers, and the wine cellar is curated with equal care. The cooking is Mediterranean in spirit—light, seasonal, and rooted in the flavours of the south—yet it respects the Black Forest setting. The result is a cuisine that feels both grounded and surprising.
Silvia and Christian Geng run the house together. Silvia is a state-certified gastronome and restaurant master; Christian is an IHK kitchen master and trainer. Christian’s career includes stages at prestigious addresses: St. Moritz, Marbella, Bern, and Sylt, before he and Silvia took over Gengs Linde in 2013. Their combined experience brings a quiet professionalism to every plate and every welcome.
Since 2026, the restaurant has held a Michelin Recommended distinction—a recognition of its unwavering commitment to quality, from the kitchen to the service. It is a place where guests can enjoy a refined Mediterranean meal in a setting that is both intimate and unpretentious.
The restaurant offers private rooms for family celebrations or corporate events, as well as outdoor seating in good weather. The surrounding area is rich with hiking trails, the Wutach Gorge, and the Rhine Falls in nearby Switzerland, making Gengs Linde a natural stop for a meal that lingers in memory.
