The story
In 2012, chef Daniel Stübler – a trained cook and state-certified gastronome with experience as sous chef, head chef, and in pastry kitchens across Stuttgart’s top hotels – took over the long-standing Gasthaus Hasen in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf. He transformed it into Meister Lampe, a restaurant that feels both rooted and contemporary. The name itself nods to the region’s culinary heritage, but the approach is forward-looking: a blend of classic cuisine and country cooking, reinterpreted with precision and creativity.
The kitchen follows the rhythm of the seasons. Menus shift regularly, drawing on Swabian home-style cooking – Hausmannskost – and international influences. Guest reviews consistently praise the freshness and execution: “Everything perfectly cooked, absolute recommendation.” The Michelin guide’s Recommended award underlines the consistent quality, noting a kitchen that respects tradition while embracing modern techniques.
One of the restaurant’s strongest assets is its wine list, which earned the Interesting Wine List tag. The selection spans Champagne, Sekt, and a deep dive into German wine regions – Baden, Pfalz, and Württemberg – with bottles from respected estates like Dr. Heger, Philipp Kuhn, and Gert Aldinger. Magnum bottles and half-bottles offer flexibility, and the staff’s knowledge, often delivered by the owner himself, adds to the experience.
The mood inside is described by guests as “heartfelt, uncomplicated” – a place where the service is attentive without being stiff. The restaurant seats up to 53 guests in its stylishly appointed rooms, and a private room is available for celebrations such as weddings, baptisms, or birthdays. For larger groups of ten to twelve, the restaurant can open outside regular hours. Outdoor seating is also available in suitable weather.
Meister Lampe is a destination for those who appreciate refined country cooking, a thoughtful wine program, and the personal touch of a chef-owner who is both master of his craft and host.
