The story

Wein- und Tafelhaus, Trittenheim – Michelin-Star Mediterranean Dining on the Moselle

At the Moselle River in Trittenheim, the Wein- und Tafelhaus is a place where the landscape meets the plate. From its glass-walled dining room, you look directly onto the celebrated terraced vineyard of Trittenheimer Apotheke, while the kitchen works in harmony with what grows nearby.

The restaurant is run by the Oos family, whose warmth and attention to detail set the tone from the moment you arrive. The cooking is described as seasonal-classic with Mediterranean elements, drawing on regional ingredients that pair naturally with the local wines. This approach, rooted in the produce of the region, earned the restaurant its first Michelin star, a recognition of high-quality cooking that feels earned rather than sought.

A meal here might begin with a Riesling Sekt or a house cocktail, followed by a menu that changes with the season. Think bio prawns with horseradish cream and celery salad, or a creamy parsley-root soup. Mains such as roasted cod with mustard sauce, spinach and lime potato purée, or veal ragout with mushrooms and spätzle, show a kitchen that values precision over fuss. A five-course menu is available, and the wine list is exceptional, with a strong focus on the estate's own Moselle wines.

The restaurant also offers a boutique hotel with individually styled rooms, a terrace for outdoor dining in warmer months, and the Greisslerei — a small shop selling fine regional foods and wines, run by Daniela Oos who brought the concept from her Austrian homeland. Cooking classes are held in an on-site school, where guests learn to prepare a four-course menu with wine pairings.

Wein- und Tafelhaus is both a destination and a home base for exploring the Moselle. The combination of Mediterranean-influenced cuisine, a serious wine program, and a setting that puts the vineyard at centre stage, makes it a rare find on this stretch of the river.

Concept Relaxed gourmet restaurant in a former winemaker's house with a terrace not far from the Mosel. Evening menu in 4 to 6 courses, plus a fine cheese selection. Culinary Style Alexander Oos favors classic French cuisine as the foundation for his refined dishes, prepared at a high level of craftsmanship. For starters, he impresses with juicy and well-spiced beef tartare with oxtail jelly, or a thoughtfully composed blend of cauliflower, quail egg, and clarified buttermilk, topped with a generous portion of caviar. The pan-seared scallop with crustacean sabayon is just as much a culinary delight as the flamed cod with miso beurre blanc and papaya. Wine Extensive selection of Mosel wines, attractively complemented by Austrian varieties. Atmosphere Stylish ambiance in a cozy country-house style. Friendly young service staff under the direction of hostess Daniela Oos. Conclusion A harmonious dining experience characterized by warm hospitality.
