The story
Die Krone has been a landmark in Staufen since at least 1520, with its first recorded mention as a guesthouse. By 1848, it was a stage for the Baden Revolution. Today, the historic dining room offers a setting that is both cozy and stylish, where guests enjoy regional Baden country cooking alongside lighter, creative Landhausküche. The restaurant’s commitment to fresh, locally sourced ingredients and meticulous preparation earned it a Michelin Bib Gourmand, recognising good quality, good value cooking.
The kitchen focuses on country cooking with a farm-to-table philosophy, using ingredients from the region to create dishes that are both familiar and refined. The menu changes with the seasons, and highlights include a weekly recommendation such as geschmortes Ochsenbäckle on Kartoffel-Karottenstampf or Kalbskopf & Zunge “en tortue” with Kartoffelpüree and market vegetables. For a full experience, the Schlossbergmenü (€46) offers a three-course journey, while the Kronenmenü (€64) pairs a starter of Carpaccio vom Münstertäler Kalb or gebeizter Gewürzlachs with a main of rosa gebratene Rinderhüfte and a dessert of Tarte Tatin, all accompanied by a regional wine. A vegetarian menu is also available, featuring dishes like Rote Beete Carpaccio and Ravioli with herb sauce.
A well-stocked cellar showcases excellent wines from the region and beyond, many from top vineyards. The restaurant also offers private dining for celebrations, corporate events, and family gatherings, ensuring a memorable experience in a relaxed, attentive atmosphere. Whether for a casual dinner or a special occasion, Die Krone delivers authentic Baden hospitality with a modern touch.
