The story
In 2008, four young gastronomes took on a challenge: renovate an old building in Wasserburg am Inn and open a restaurant that would bring new life to the town. Today, Maria Schmid-Oehlke and Maik Oehlke run Herrenhaus with the same passion, now backed by over a decade of experience. Their guiding motto remains: “We are young, we have taste, and the necessary bite to let fresh air blow through an old house.”
The restaurant occupies a beautifully restored historic property. Inside, the atmosphere is both cosy and elegant – a setting that feels welcoming without pretence. The team works closely with regional producers: eggs, meat, flour, vegetables – they know where everything comes from and favour organic suppliers. This farm-to-table approach is central to the kitchen, which changes its small menu weekly to reflect the best of the season.
Herrenhaus has earned a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, a testament to its consistent quality and clear culinary identity. The evening menu offers three to five courses, priced from €57.50 to €80.50, and changes daily. A business lunch is served on weekdays, with a choice of soup or salad and two main courses. On request, the kitchen prepares vegan menus up to five courses. The wine list focuses on Germany, Austria and Italy, with many wines available by the glass.
Herrenhaus also offers cooking classes for groups of 8 to 10 people, held either in the morning or evening. The restaurant can host private events for up to 70 guests, using its bar, main dining room, or the beautiful summer terrace. Whether for a quiet dinner or a celebration, the team tailors the experience to each guest’s needs.
