The story
In the small town of Pirk, near Weiden, a 330-year-old blacksmith's forge has been transformed into a destination for modern cuisine. Genussschmiede Pirk occupies a building with deep roots: built in 1682 by Andreas Falckenbacher, it was home to generations of blacksmiths and, later, a steel construction business. Today, the team describes themselves as "masters of good taste," carrying on the tradition of craftsmanship in a very different medium.
The kitchen's motto is simple: always fresh, always regional, always delicious. Ingredients are sourced from trusted local suppliers, forming the foundation for dishes that blend traditional recipes with contemporary influences. The result is what the restaurant calls "flavour explosions" – a creative, seasonal approach that has earned them a Michelin Recommended distinction. Chef Peter Mauritz is credited with discovering inventive flavour combinations and compositions, a creativity that is meant to be seen as much as tasted.
The restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere with options for lunch, dinner, and outdoor seating. The menu, updated seasonally, ranges from starters and soups to main courses, desserts, and full tasting menus. A selection of fine wines is available, both to accompany a meal and to purchase from their on-site wine shop. For those who wish to take the experience home, the Genussschmiede also offers takeaway and a range of wines, coffee, and accessories. The space is also available for private events, where the team will open on days they are normally closed.
