The story

Gasthaus Egertal in Weißenstadt – Michelin Bib Gourmand & Family Tradition

A Family Affair

Since 1957, the Rupprecht family has been welcoming guests in Weißenstadt. What began with Therese and Adolf Rupprecht and their famous chicken specialties at the Stadtbad evolved into a proper Gasthaus when they moved to the Egertal in 1963. Sons Peter and Theodor trained in top kitchens across Germany and Switzerland, and by 1968 they had taken over. Today, Theodor W. Rupprecht and his wife Angelina – herself a trained chef and sommelier – run the kitchen, continuing a tradition of Gastlichkeit aus Passion (hospitality with passion).

Honest, Regional Cooking

The kitchen’s philosophy is simple: ehrliches Essen – honest food. Seasonal, regional ingredients are transformed into classic dishes with a modern touch. The menu changes with the seasons, and the commitment to quality is evident in every plate. This is country cooking elevated by precision, without pretence. On the third Saturday of each month, the Gasthaus also hosts a Genießerfrühstück – a gourmet breakfast buffet for 29€ per person, with a free bottle of sparkling wine for groups of five or more.

A Bib Gourmand Recognition

In 2026, Gasthaus Egertal earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award for good quality, good value cooking. It’s a fitting nod to the family’s dedication to genuine, satisfying meals in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant is also listed in guides such as Gault & Millau, Varta, and Der Feinschmecker, and its wine selection has been praised by Vinum magazine. But for the Rupprechts, the real reward is seeing guests feel at home – and come back.
