The story

Alt Wyk – Michelin-Starred Classic Cuisine on the Island of Föhr | Wyk auf Föhr

Island Lightness

On the North Sea island of Föhr, Alt Wyk brings the spirit of the coast to the plate. The atmosphere is deliberately relaxed – “leger und voll entspannter Leichtigkeit,” as the team puts it. Guests are welcomed into a space that feels more like a private dinner party than a formal fine dining room. Nothing fussy, nothing forced. The focus lands squarely on what matters: taste, aroma, colour, texture.

A Decade of Consistency

Since 2011, chef René Dittrich and his wife Daniela have been at the helm. Their commitment to authentic, seasonal, and regional cooking has earned them a Michelin star every year since 2013 – a testament to steady, passionate craftsmanship. The kitchen respects the produce the island’s surroundings offer, letting natural flavours lead. Every component is made in-house, from bread and pralines to chocolate and petits fours. “We are not artists,” the team notes, “we are masters of flavourful enjoyment and charming hosts.”

Menus in Rhythm

The menu changes regularly, following the seasons. At the time of writing, a multi-course journey unfolds: salmon with scallops, passion fruit and wasabi; foie gras with fig and chocolate; a smoked risotto with egg yolk, eel and chlorophyll; Thai consommé with Wagyu beef and shiitake; monkfish with pear, turnip, mustard and blood sausage; veal filet and osso buco with braised vegetables. A truffled pecorino with piadina and mascarpone, and a macaron with yogurt, citrus and lemon myrtle round out the meal. Guests choose between four, five or six courses (priced at 134, 157 and 172 euros respectively). A vegetarian menu is available on request.

Thoughtful Pairings

The wine journey uses exclusively German wines, carefully selected to match each course. For those who prefer no alcohol, a finely nuanced non-alcoholic pairing has been created. The service, led by Daniela Dittrich, is attentive and discreet, guiding guests through the evening without hurry.

Alt Wyk’s classic cuisine, rooted in the seasons and executed with quiet precision, makes a strong case for the island as a destination for serious dining.

Concept In the red brick building, you can experience a cozy Frisian atmosphere in the small, comfortable restaurant near the waterfront promenade. Eight dishes are offered, which can be combined into a menu of four to six courses. Culinary Style Executive Chef and owner René Dittrich masters the classical foundation, which he interprets with his skill and the finest ingredients. The menu begins with scallops served with peas and buttermilk, while the lobster is accompanied by farfalle and ratatouille. During our visit in July, they even still had the last morels; the sea bass came with artichokes and a potato roll, and the veal fillet was served with a rich jus and kohlrabi. Good craftsmanship is also evident in small details such as the bread or the macarons to finish the meal. Wine The wine list features around 120 selections from renowned winemakers, with ten available by the glass. Atmosphere The young team led by Daniela Dittrich creates a relaxed atmosphere in the cozy premises adorned with maritime tiles on the walls. Conclusion A classic, stylish dining experience with the cuisine at its center.
