The five-star LUA Resort opened in spring 2022 with an “adults only” concept from the outset – a tranquil haven of total relaxation, free from boisterous kids. Built in a stunning lakeside setting just beyond the bustle of central Balatonfüred, this luxury hotel also welcomes non-resident diners to its restaurant. The interior is elegant and minimalist, in keeping with the tone of the place – with a touch of cool detachment. The dress code is smart casual: not strictly enforced, but it's certainly appreciated if guests at a venue of this calibre eschew flip-flops and vests. Executive chef Attila Nagy’s contemporary kitchen occasionally flirts with fine dining. Expect vibrant colours, playful textures and meticulously plated dishes with a strong visual identity. Ingredients are fresh and high quality, with several seafood or exotic touches – from mussels and prawns to coconut. One standout dish, the “Golden Apple” – featuring duck liver, apple, Timut pepper and brioche – highlights both the chef’s flair for flavour and his eye for presentation. The menu is eclectic, ranging from shrimp bisque to Gödöllő-style chicken and a rum-and-coconut dessert. The wine list is carefully curated with a clear Balaton focus, though international bottles are rightly included, as befits a place of this stature. Service is polite and attentive, if occasionally a little stiff – a touch more ease and spontaneity would elevate the overall experience.
