The story
For over a decade, Sparhelt Bistro in Balatonfüred has been a story of steady evolution. The team started young, learned relentlessly, and built what they describe as the best possible crew. That dedication was recognised in 2022 when Sparhelt received its first Michelin Bib Gourmand award—a distinction for good quality, good value cooking that the team has proudly retained every year since.
Under the guidance of Chef Balázs Elek, the kitchen turns out thoughtful modern cuisine that balances creativity with a sense of place. The menu changes with the seasons, but recent dishes show the kitchen’s range: a velős pirítós (pork brains ragout on toast) with smoked beef tongue and cherry tomato salad; a slow-roasted mangalica pork neck with cornichon-mustard sauce, new potatoes, asparagus, and a silky green pea purée; and a wild garlic "risotto" made with egg barley, ricotta, and a deep-fried egg yolk.
The wine list leans heavily on Hungarian producers, with thoughtful pairings for each course. A five-course tasting menu is available, as is a vegetarian degustation, both with optional wine or non-alcoholic pairings.
Set on Szent István tér in the heart of Balatonfüred, Sparhelt offers indoor and outdoor seating, and welcomes guests for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday. It remains, above all, a place that values substance over flash—and has the awards to prove it.
